Effectiveness of Knowledge Management

On July 7th the Rotterdam Business School is organizing it's first symposium on "the effectiveness of Knowledge Management", an effort to bring together practicioners, researchers and academics. Efios' Erik van Bekkum will be part of a six-expert panel including Deloitte & Touche's CKO and Professor Erik Andriessen from Delft University of Technology.

Virtual Communities 2004

Harry Collier from Infornotics is organizing "Virtual Communties 2004" in The Hague. The final announcement about the speakers will be published on his website and the (new) weblog. Erik van Bekkum may be speaking about the communities of Practice of Rio Tinto mining. A series of presentations about those communities in Singapore and Melbourne last year, were well received. Other speakers include Etienne Wenger, Dave Snowden, John Smith and Nancy White.

KM Europe

KM Europe is a dedicated Knowledge Management (KM) conference and free exhibition, the largest and most far reaching event of its kind in Europe. Now in its fourth year and already enjoyed by more than 6,000 visitors, KM Europe is widely acknowledged as the annual meeting place for KM pioneers and implementers. Value creation with Communities workshop (ARK Group)

Efios will, together with George Por from Community Intelligence, present a one-day workshop about value-creation with communities of practice. In this workshop you will learn how to maximise value with communities of practice for both your organisation and community members. The event will provide you with the practical strategies and tools you need to overcome the barriers to implementing and sustaining communities that add value and facilitate innovation. The conference takes place 21-22 October and the workshop on the following day (23rd of October).

Communities and Technology 2003 (C&T)

Knowledge @ Work, developments of the knowledge workplace (European Commission)

A knowledge café, organised by Paul Hearn, will be held in Brussels on 24th February 2003 to bring together researchers interested in latest developments from a technology and policy perspective affecting the (knowledge) workplace.

The meeting is organised by the New Working Environments unit at the European Commission's Directorate General Information Society, which is looking at research into technology and policy and how it affects the organisation of work, workplaces, knowledge work and knowledge management. The café will be a second meeting of minds on this topic, and follows on from the successful knowledge café held in Copenhagen on November 5th 2002.

Workshop on value creation with Communities of Practice

On December 18th - 19th INSEAD in Fontainebleau is organizing a private workshop on measuring value creation in CoP's. Topics for discussion include strategy, communities as generators of strategic capabilities for the organizations, community mandates while respecting the self-organized nature, visualizing value from communities and open discussions. Participants are Etienne Wenger, Hubert Saint-Onge, Albert Angehrn, George Por, together with Siemens, Solvay, Ernst & Young, Rio Tinto, Novo Nordisk, and many others.

INSEAD Metanational Forum

From October 24.-26 INSEAD will host the metanational forum that will try to answer questions on how large multinational corporations can work successfully in the knowledge economy. The event is called "Managing Global Innovations: Learning from the World" - Participants include Xerox, SMTP microelectronics, HP, IBM and Nokia.

Social and Human Capital in the Knowledge Society (European Commission)

A conference on the policy implications of the Social and Human Capital in the Knowledge Society will be held in Brussels next 28 and 29 October. Participants include representatives of the European Institutions, international organisations, EU Member States and accession countries, social partners, NGOs, industry and research.

The conference will notably aim at striking a balance between expectations and realities in the European knowledge society, drawing the political consequences of the emerging trends for employment and social policies. On the basis of accession countries experience, the conference programme will also focus on the knowledge society in an enlarged Europe, fostering an interdisciplinary approach to social and human capital issues.
